No. 25 Noles Open NCAAs with 50 Free

Results

GREENSBORO, N.C.  –   The No. 25 Florida State women’s swimming and diving team began competing at the 2021 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Thursday.

Senior Emma Terebo, sophomore Tania Quaglieri and freshman Jenny Halden all raced in heat two of the 50 free.

“It was good to get a race under our belts,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We’re looking forward to their best events tomorrow.”

Halden turned in the top time for the Noles at 22.85 for fourth in the heat, slightly off her personal best of 22.56. Terebo followed at 22.98 and Quaglieri touched at 23.17.  Halden tied for 51st place, Terebo took 57th and Quaglieri finished 62nd.

All three Seminoles will be competing in their top races on Friday.  Halden will swim first in the heats of the 100 fly and Terebo and Quaglieri will close out the session in prelims of the 100 back.

Prelims will start at 10 am and the top 16 swimmers from the morning heats will advance to finals, that start at 6 p.m. All sessions will be streamed via Watch ESPN and live timing will be available.

Top Times: 100 fly – 52.15; 50 free – 22.56

  • Qualified for the NCAA Championships after posting her personal best in the 100 fly at 52.15 at the UGA Last Chance Invite
  • Holds the fourth fastest time in school history in the 100 fly and is 10th in the 50 free at 22.56
  • Placed 11th in the 100 fly (52.62) at the ACC Championships

Tania Quaglieri • SO • Nonatola, Italy • Back/Free • Istituto Dante Alighieri

Events: 50 free – 22.70, 57th; 100 back – 52.17, 17th, 100 free – 49.16, 53rd

Top Times: 50 free – 22.70; 100 free – 49.16; 100 back – 52.17

  • Punched her ticket to NCAAs by finishing sixth in the 100 back at the 2021 ACC Championships where she set the school record at 52.17, taking down McKayla Lightbourn’s 52.39 that was set in 2014
  • Placed ninth in the 100 free at ACCs and helped the Noles place fourth in the 200 medley relay and fifth in the 200 free relay

Events: 50 free – 22.64, 56th; 100 back – 53.01, 40th, 100 free – 49.43, 59th

Top Times: 50 free – 22.51, 100 free – 48.69, 100 back – 52.79

  • Qualified for her first individual NCAA meet in the 100 back by placing ninth at 53.01 at ACCs. Swam at the 2018 & 2018 NCAA Meets as a relay swimmer
  • Also placed 17th in the 100 free and 20th in the 50 free at ACCs
  • Ranks in the FSU all-time top 10 in three events; 100 back – 5th, 50 free – 6th, 100 free, 3rd
