No. 31 Men’s Tennis Drops Match at Clemson 4-3

CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 31 Florida State men’s tennis (14-9, 4-7) fell 4-3 in a close match against No. 67 Clemson (11-12, 2-9) on Thursday evening in South Carolina.

“I was disappointed we lost doubles,” head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “We played very good doubles last weekend, and we had opportunities today but didn’t convert on those in doubles.”

FSU dropped a tight doubles point to the Tigers that was decided on court one. Andreja Petrovic and Loris Pourroy earned a win on court two, but Josh Karpenschif and Maks Silagy were unable to clinch on court one after trading games back and forth with Clemson.

The Noles claimed five first sets to open singles play including tiebreak wins for Petrovic and Silagy. Youcef Rihane won the first point for the Seminoles with a straight-set victory on court four.

After sweeping the first set, Karpenschif finished off his match in the third set to double the Seminoles’ lead. Petrovic finished soon after on court two to set up the Noles to clinch. Unfortunately, Pourroy and Silagy both lost in three sets to fall just short of the win.

“I thought we did a good job coming back,” Hultquist shared. “We won five first sets and put ourselves in position to win the match, and I think the key thing is that we didn’t win enough second sets.”

Florida State plays its final match of the regular season Saturday at Georgia Tech at 12 p.m.
