No. 33 Men’s Tennis to Face Top Ranked Wake Forest

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 33 Florida State Seminoles (14-8, 4-4 ACC) head to Winston-Salem, N.C. to face the No. 1/1 Wake Forest Demon Deacons (20-1, 7-0 ACC) at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, before heading to Raleigh, N.C. to take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack (12-11, 3-5 ACC) on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.

“It’s not often you get to play number one team in the country,” Florida State head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “They’ve had a great year so far and really solidified themselves as top team and among very best in college tennis. As a conference, the ACC has three of the top four in the USTA collegiate poll and we look forward to the opportunity.”

Florida State is looking to defeat the Demon Deacons for the first time since 2014, a 4-3 victory in Tallahassee.

Following the battle in Winston-Salem, the Noles will make the short drive to Raleigh to take on the No. 66 Wolfpack on Sunday. Florida State leads the all-time series 24-3 over NC State, and have not lost since the 2013 season.

Noles in the Polls

Following last week’s shutout victory over Boston College, Florida State checked in at No. 33 in the nation in the ITA national team poll.

Junior Guy Iradukunda has risen to No. 73 in the national singles rankigns, while sophomore Aziz Dougaz comes in at No. 63 in the latest poll. The doubles pair of redshirt juniors Lucas Poullain and Jose Gracia rose two spots to No. 87 in the ITA doubles rankings.

Return from Davis Cup

The Seminoles welcome Dougaz (Tunisia) and freshman Alex Knaff (Luxembourg) back in the lineup after missing last week while representing their home nations in the Davis Cup, the World Cup of tennis. Dougaz played alongside Skander Mansouri on the Tunisian national team and against Petros Chrysochos of Cyrus, both of whom play collegiately for Wake Forest.

“We’re looking forward to adding Aziz and Alex back in the lineup after missing the couple matches at Davis Cup,’ Hultquist said.

Both Dougaz and Knaff led their teams to wins to advance to the next group of Davis Cup play.
