No. 4 Women’s Tennis ACC Play Begins With Rival Miami

Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 4 ranked Florida State Women’s tennis team (9-1, 0-0) will travel to Coral Gables to take on Miami (3-2, 1-0) at 11 a.m. in its first ACC dual match of the year at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.  Monday’s match against the Hurricane will be the first of three broadcasted matches on the ACC Network Extra: https://www.espn.com/watch?id=ed37de86-8511-4a33-adce-c057d440bea8

Miami leads 35-7 all-time against Florida State dating back to 1977 when the rivalry first began. The last time the two teams met was a season ago in Tallahassee and saw the Seminoles post a 5-2 victory over the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes are led by the reigning NCAA Singles Champion, senior Estela Perez-Somarriba who is ranked No. 3 in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings. Miami’s lineup also features two other ranked singled players in sophomore Daevenia Achong at No. 85 and freshman Selma Cadar ranked at No. 104. In doubles, Achong and Cadar are the only ranked duo coming in at No. 53.

Florida State is coming into ACC play with five top-20 victories in their first 10 matches. The Florida State women’s tennis team is No. 4 in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, which is the highest ranking in program history. The Noles have one singles player in the rankings, senior Nandini Das at No. 86.

In doubles, the Garnet and Gold have two ranked pairs with Junior Petra Hule and freshman Victoria Allen checking in at No. 15 and junior Emmanuelle Salas and Allen just one spot below at No. 16.
