Atlanta, GA – What was anticipated to be an early season ACC road test for the sixth-ranked Florida State women’s tennis team, turned out to be another convincing display of depth and dominance. FSU won the first five points versus No. 12 Georgia Tech to clinch the win early and closed out the match with a 5-2 victory. The win improved the Noles to 7-1 on the season and to 2-0 in ACC play.
Andrea Garcia continued her stellar start to the season winning points in both her singles and doubles match. The two victories moved the redshirt senior to 20-0 on the season and gave her 193 wins all-time wins at FSU. The Asturias, Spain native is now in second place for all-time career wins at FSU.
The Seminoles started strong by taking the doubles point from the Jackets. Giulia Pairone and Victoria Allen didn’t get the opportunity to finish off a potential upset of the nation’s No. 5 doubles pair (4-5) because FSU closed it out before they had the chance. Petra Hule and Emmanuelle Salas were first off on court three with a 6-4 win. Nandini Das and Garcia followed with a 6-4 win of their own.
In singles, courts 4-6 led the way locking up the win at 4-0. Allen was first off as she improved her singles record to 5-2 this season with a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory. On court five, Hule was next off as she moved to 5-2 as well with her 6-1, 6-2 win. Garcia completed her perfect day with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court six. FSU moved out to a 5-0 lead thanks to Salas who upset the nation’s 56th-ranked player in straight sets (7-5, 6-3).
The tests will keep coming for the Seminoles this weekend with a top 10 matchup on the slate for Friday. FSU will host 10th-ranked NC State February 26 at 4:00. Then on Sunday, ACC play will continue versus a Wake Forest team that is receiving votes in the latest ITA Top 25 poll.
