Drew Mendoza, Cal Raleigh and Rhett Aplin are FSU’s top three hitters and the three combined for four home runs and five RBI Tuesday at Florida.

Aplin hit his first two home runs of the season at Florida with a season-high three RBI. Aplin is hitting .393 over his current seven-game hitting streak. He ranks eighth nationally with 19 walks after having just 25 in 47 games in 2017.

Raleigh followed up Aplin’s first inning home run with a homer of his own, his second of the year. Raleigh is FSU’s second-leading hitter at .328 and has a seven-game hitting streak, two shy of his career high.

Mendoza leads FSU with a .429 average and 18 RBI. He hit his first home run of the season in the eighth inning Tuesday at Florida. Head coach Mike Martin is just 18 wins away from becoming college baseball’s winningest coach. Martin is 1,958-697-4 over 39 seasons at Florida State and trails the late Augie Garrido (1,975) for the most in NCAA history. Martin’s .738 career winning percentage is the best among active coaches.

Garrido passed away earlier Thursday, leading Martin to say, “College baseball and the world lost one of the finest men in our coaching profession. Augie dedicated his life to making young men better people. He will be deeply missed by myself and many others.”
