No. 7 Women’s Tennis Opens The Weekend With 4-0 Win Over UNF

RESULTS

Tallahassee, FL – The seventh-ranked FSU women’s tennis team opened a three-game weekend with a convincing 4-0 victory over previously unbeaten UNF. After a highly-contested doubles point, the Seminoles rattled of three straight points in singles to close down the Osprey (3-1) and move to 4-1 on the season.

Emmanuelle Salas and Andrea Garcia started things off quickly for FSU in doubles with a 6-2 win, which moved Garcia into fifth place all alone for career victories at FSU. UNF took the point on court one 7-5, setting up Victoria Allen and Anna Arkadianou for the heroics. The pair wrestled away the final point on court 2 after winning the tiebreaker 11-9 to take the point 7-6.

Following the marathon doubles point, the singles went much more quickly. Garcia was first off with a 6-2, 6-4 win. She was followed by Petra Hule who won 6-3, 6-1. Then the Seminoles closed out UNF thanks to the nation’s 27th-ranked singles player, as Giulia Pairone won 6-3, 6-4.

“It’s fantastic to be out competing again,” said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. “Any opportunity to get out and do some work between the lines is something we don’t take for granted. The girls really enjoy every time we have a chance to compete. We had a bit of a crazy week and the preparation for today was not typical but the team relied on the level we have to find success today.”

The women will take Saturday off before playing two matches Sunday. The Seminoles will host FAU at 10:30 and then Florida A&M at 5:30. Both matches are scheduled for the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center but will likely move indoors if weather forecasts for Sunday hold true. If the games move inside, no fans will unfortunately be permitted.

“We have to get some rest,” said Hyde looking forward to Sunday’s doubleheader. “The chances are we will most likely be indoors. We are looking forward to the opportunity to play two schools from the state of Florida and to continue to get opportunities to play and improve.”
