TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Back in Florida for a four-game homestand, No. 9/8 Florida State (27-4) welcomes intra-state opponent Jacksonville (18-20) to JoAnne Graf Field for a midweek matchup on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. The game is FSU softball’s Faculty and Staff Appreciation night and several university professors and staff will be throwing out ceremonial first pitches prior to the game.
“It is good to be back in Tallahassee this week and able to play at home,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “We’re continuing to learn more about who we are as individuals and who we are as a team and Wednesday night provides another opportunity to get after it and get better pitch by pitch.
“It is also great to be able to celebrate the faculty and staff of this university and everything they give, not just to our student-athletes, but to FSU as a whole to make it an amazing place to learn, work and be a Seminole.”
The Noles are 16-4 all-time against Jacksonville, dating back to 2003. FSU has won the last eight games against JU and have outscored the Dolphins, 56-2, over that span.
FSU leads the ACC in 15 different team categories including batting average (.350), runs scored (253), ERA (1.96) and opponent batting average (.215). Alex Powers tops the conference with a .447 batting and Morgan Klaevemann’s .566 on-base percentage is the best in the ACC.
On the pitching side, Jessica Burroughs leads the team and the conference with a 16-2 record and has won each of her last 13 decisions dating back to February 20. Redshirt freshman Meghan King has been excellent in her first season of collegiate softball, going 11-2 with a 2.21 ERA on the year with 58 strikeouts.
Wednesday’s game will be broadcast live on Seminole Softball Radio (@FSUsbRADIO) with Robin Ahrberg and Ryann Day on the call. The live stream, as well as live stats, will be available for free on Seminoles.com.
