Noles Advance In Doubles And Singles At Regionals


Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team returned to the Indoor Tennis Facility for day two of the 2019 ITA Southeast Regional Championship on Saturday. The Garnet and Gold finished the day 5-1 in doubles and 2-2 in singles.

The Seminoles began the day with doubles as junior Emmanuelle Salas and freshman Victoria Allen took down Sara Kelly and Maja Ornberg of FGCU 8-5. Seniors Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia followed with an 8-2 win over Georgia’s Morgan Coppoc and Lea Ma. Junior Petra Hule and freshman Sasha Hill later joined their teammates in the win column after defeating Sydney Berlin and Tsveta Dimitrova (UF) 8-2.

In the doubles quarterfinals, Florida State advanced two pairs to the semifinals tomorrow. Salas and Allen were the first duo to lock in their spot with an 8-7(6) victory over Marta Gonzalez and Meg Kowalski of Georgia. Das and Garcia followed suit defeating Daevenia Achong and Selma Cadar of Miami 8-4.  Hule and Hill rounded out doubles play falling to UCF’s Marie Mattel and Rebeka Stolmar 8-7(4).

Singles play began with Salas earning the biggest win of the day. The junior defeated Radka Buzkova of FAU 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 to advance to the main draw quarterfinals tomorrow.  In a well-played match, freshman Mira Stegmann would be defeated by Martina Kudelova of FAU 6-4, 7-6(1). Hill lost as well losing 6-1, 6-4 to Valeriya Zeleva of UCF.  In the singles consolation draw, Garcia finished day two for the Noles with a 6-1, 0-6, 10-6 win over name Otuska (GT).

Play will continue tomorrow, this time outside at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center with the doubles semifinals taking place at 10:00 A.M. followed by singles quarterfinals and consolation matches.
