LAKE BUENO VISTA, Fla. – The Florida State men’s tennis team continued its magically doubles run at the USTA Clay Court Invitational at Disney on Saturday. Three of the four doubles teams won their quarterfinal match to advance to Sunday’s semifinals matches in both the Gold and Garnet Doubles Draw. All matches at being played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney.

“I’m happy about today’s play,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “Having three doubles in tomorrow’s semifinals shows the hard work that our guys have done this fall. I’m also proud with Cristian’s play in singles today winning tough matches to advance to the finals.”

In the Garnet Doubles Draw, the Seminoles started the day off with two wins as senior Andres Bucaro and Michael Rinaldi topped Florida’s Proisy and Johnson 8-2 to take on FAU’s Neuner and Fantova at 8:30 on Sunday. Sophomore Cristian Gonzalez Mendez and redshirt freshman João Gauer defeated Duke’s Levine and McCall 8-5 to play Espejo Sanchez and Kirby of Tulsa on Sunday.

Sophomore Dominic Cotrone and Benjamin Lock continued the run with a 8-2 win over Florida’s Federhofer and Watson to play in Sunday’s 8:30 semifinals against Duke’s Redlicki and Tahir. If any of the Florida State teams advance to the finals, it will take place at 2 p.m.

In the Spear Main Draw quarterfinals, Gauer fought back after losing his first set to defeat Penn State’s Roman Trkulja 3-6, 6-4, 6-0. In the semifinals, Gauer lost to Chase Perez-Blanco of the USTA 6-3, 6-0. He plays a consolation match against Tulsa’s Tristan Jackson at 11:30.
