TAMPA, Fla. – After a four day tournament, the Florida State men’s tennis team finished play which was highlighted by two players in the semifinals and one player reaching the finals along with a 12-8 overall record in in the A and B Draws of singles. The Seminoles competed at the State of Florida Championships on the campus of USF which had Florida State joining the Bulls as well as UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Miami and North Florida in the tournament.
Leading the way for the Seminoles today was junior Andres Bucaro (Guatemala City, Guatemala) who won his semifinal match this morning against Willy De Vilchez of USF 7-5, 7-5. In the finals of the B Draw, he faced Leonardo Nahar of North Florida. After winning the first set, Bucaro fell just short the rest of the match to loss the tight match 1-6, 6-4, 12-10. Bucaro is now 6-2 on the season in singles.
The other `Nole playing today was Jordan Kelly-Houston (Christchurch, New Zealand). The junior faced No. 104 Wael Kilani of USF in the semifinals of the A Draw but lost 6-4, 6-1. Kelly-Houston finished the tournament with a 3-1 record.
The Seminoles return home this weekend for the Seminole Fall Invitational. Play begins Friday, September 30 and will conclude on Sunday, November 2.
