Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State women’s tennis will finish the regular season with a trio of matches this weekend, including a Senior Day match Sunday against Pitt at 12 PM. The weekend will begin with a doubleheader Friday at 11 AM against Troy and 4 PM against Louisville. The Seminoles (10-12, 2-10 ACC) are led by senior Daneika Borthwick.
The 31st-ranked player in the country, Borthwick has won five consecutive matches against ranked opponents, including four straight against Top 50 foes. She leads the Seminoles with a 19-10 singles mark on the year and a 20-12 doubles record with a host of playing partners.
Last week, FSU split a pair of road matches, beating No. 37 NC State on Friday before falling at No. 20 Wake Forest on Sunday. The NC State win was the fifth of the season against a ranked opponent for the Noles.
All three opponents this weekend are unranked. Troy is 11-7 overall and 2-3 in the Sun Belt, while Louisville (8-15, 0-12 ACC) and Pittsburgh (7-11, 1-11 ACC) have combined for just one conference win this season. The Seminoles beat both opponents last season.
Along with a pair of matches, Friday’s day of events includes a 30-Love hitaround with FSU Special Olympics between the Troy and Louisville matches. Against the Cardinals, FSU will celebrate Paint It Pink and raise money for cancer research. The Noles will also host a hot dog eating contest where the winner will leave with an iPad.
Sunday’s match against Pitt will serve as Senior Day for Borthwick and Yukako Noi. Borthwick sits one win away from the Top 10 in school history in both singles and doubles, while Noi is finishing her second year as a starter in the Seminole lineup. Sunday’s ceremony will begin sharply at 12:00 PM.
