OXFORD, Miss. – Three-seed Florida State opens the 2021 NCAA Tournament Friday at 3 p.m. ET in the Oxford Regional against Southern Miss. The game will air nationally on ESPNU and fans can also listen on the radio in Tallahassee on 100.7 FM or nationwide through Tunein or the FSU Gameday App.
Tom Hart and Kyle Peterson will cover the Oxford Regional throughout the weekend for ESPN.
The Seminoles (30-22) and Southern Miss (37-19) have met just once in the postseason – a 7-2 Florida State win in Tallahassee in 2016. Also in the regional are 1-seed Ole Miss and 4-seed Southeast Missouri State, who will play Friday at 8 p.m.
Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year Mat Nelson, who leads the nation with 22 home runs and tops the ACC with 64 RBI, was named a first team All-American Thursday by Collegiate Baseball. Parker Messick, the ACC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year, was a third team All-American.
Florida State is in the postseason for the 43rd consecutive season and the 58th time overall. Head coach Mike Martin, Jr., is leading his first team to the postseason after the 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
FSU was one of eight teams to reach the tournament from the ACC, the second-most bids of any conference. FSU is a combined 38-12 all-time against Southern Miss, while boasting a 7-1 record against Ole Miss and a 3-0 mark against SEMO.
