TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  – Before Tropical Storm Hermine makes its way into town, the Florida State swimming and diving teams officially started the 2016-17 season by holding its first practice. “There was a great energy on deck today,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “Our kids came ready to get to work and they’re very excited to start the season.”

The Seminoles return 19 women and 18 men, including the five athletes that qualified for the NCAA Championships (Meg Brown, Summer Finke, Cassidy Gebhart, Jason Coombs and Dylan Grisell) in 2016 while adding 20 newcomers. In addition to Studd, Tiffany Clay, Dan Carrington and Ozzie Quevedo are also in their first seasons as coaches.

“I’ve missed working with these kids,” head diving coach John Proctor said, who just returned from coaching Katrina Young to a 13th place finish at the Olympic Games. “We’ve got some work to do, but man, it’s going to be a great season for us.”

The 2016-17 season schedule is expected to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
