TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Entering the season as a consensus top-five team nationally, Florida State was picked as the favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference by the league’s coaches, the ACC announced Tuesday morning. FSU earned 10 of the 14 votes as the overall champion and 13 of 14 votes to win the Atlantic Division.
North Carolina, among the top 10 in every preseason poll, was picked by 12 of 14 coaches to win the Coastal Division, with Virginia receiving the other two votes. Wake Forest earned the remaining Atlantic Division vote, while North Carolina (3) and Wake Forest (1) represented the other votes to win the conference.
The Seminoles beat the Tar Heels in the 2017 ACC Championship Game to secure the seventh ACC title in program history. Despite losing four everyday starters from the 2017 team, FSU opens 2018 ranked in the top five of the Baseball America (3), Collegiate Baseball (4), D1Baseball.com (5), Perfect Game (5) and USA Today (5) polls.
Juniors Tyler Holton, Cal Raleigh and Jackson Lueck and sophomore Drew Mendoza have been recognized by at least one publication as preseason All-Americans.
