Noles Set For Capital City Club Match Play

April 18, 2014

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 19-ranked Florida State men’s golf team partakes in the inaugural Capital City Club Match Play at the Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Milton, Ga., Saturday. The Seminoles take on No. 6 Georgia in the semifinals while No. 5 Georgia Tech takes on No. 26 Auburn.

“I am looking forward to seeing how our guys compete against other top players in a match play format tomorrow,” said head coach Trey Jones. “I would like to see more of these opportunities in college golf but it’s difficult with our NCAA mandated number of days of competition. While we know the ACC Championship starts one week from today, we play to win every day and tomorrow will be no different.”

The unique one-day event features the four teams playing each other in match play with semifinal matches beginning at 7:30 a.m., followed by the consolation and championship matches at 1:30 p.m. Each match in the event will count toward the teams’ head-to-head records for NCAA championship qualifications. Admission to the event is free.

The matches are structured similar to those at the NCAA Championship, with the major exception being that each team will field six players instead of the usual five. Each team’s No. 6 player will face each other, followed by their No. 5 players and so on. Scoring will also be the same, with each individual match counting one point toward the team score. A two-hole playoff involving all six players from each team will be utilized in the event of a 3-3 match tie.

This is the final tune-up for the four teams before their conference championships which take place next week. The Atlantic Coast Conference Championship is April 25-27 in New London, N.C.

The line-up for Saturday’s semifinal match against Georgia is as followed:
