TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –  ( The third-ranked Florida State (23-0. 11-0) indoor volleyball team returns home after a four-match road stretch to host Virginia (15-9, 8-3) on Friday at 7 p.m. in Tully Gym.

“It’s nice to be back for a match,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “We knew both NC State and Clemson would be good and just having to travel – any time you have back-to-back away weekends it’s tough to get through. It feels good to get through that stretch.”

The Seminoles set a new school record for the longest winning streak in history at 23-0, topping the 21-straight the 1981 squad put up during the month of October when teams played 50 or more contests in a single season.

Last Friday, the Seminoles were forced to shift the lineup but still defeated NC State 3-1 on Halloween before outlasting Clemson for their seventh fifth-set victory of 2014.

Junior outside hitter Nicole Walch took home her second-consecutive ACC Player of the Week honor after putting up a total of 40 kills hitting .316 percent for the weekend. The Stuart, Fla. native helped the Seminoles overcome the Tigers on Sunday with a career high performance of 25 kills and five aces.

The Cavaliers come to Tallahassee boasting a 15-9, 8-3 record, sitting fifth in the ACC behind the Seminoles, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 25 Duke and Miami.

“Virginia has done a great job,” Poole said. “They’re going to be a dangerous team, they’ve only lost to North Carolina and Duke in conference so we know they’re going to be very good and they’re going to come in hungry. They’re still in a position right now where they need to get a win over one of the top three in order to get into the NCAA Tournament so they’re going to be pushing for it.”

Florida State has the series lead, 33-14 over Virginia after a 3-1 victory in Charlottesville, Va. In 2013.
