TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State divers Samantha Vear and Joshua Davidson were named the ACC Divers of the Week by the conference on Tuesday, following their performances at the Georgia Invite.
“I am very proud of these two,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “This team comes to work every day. They have such great attitudes and they support one another. Josh is the veteran of the group and has been really working hard and Sammy has improved so much in the short time she’s been here,”
“I let them get behind the wheel and put their foot on the gas this weekend,” Proctor added. “Both of them did dives this weekend for the first time this season and Sammy competed a new dive. Considering where we are right now, they were great this weekend and I am really happy with how they’re progressing.”
As a freshman, Vear takes home her first ACC Female Diver of the Week honor after winning both springboard events last week. The Conroe, Texas, native finished first on 1-meter with a total of 289.96 ahead of her classmate Vivian Johnson (271.35) and was also victorious on 3-meter at 291.00.
Both scores exceeded the NCAA zone qualification standards and were her highest of the season.
Davidson brings home his fifth-career ACC Male Diver of the Week honor after dominating 1-meter, winning with score of 353.10. He also finished second on 3-meter by just under two points at 352.40.
The senior from Tomball, Texas also posted his highest scores of the season.
