Noles Take Down Irish, 6-1 on St. Patrick’s Day

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 22nd ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (13-3, 5-1) took down No. 42 Notre Dame (10-7, 3-5) 6-1 at home on St. Patrick’s Day.

The day got started with Florida State losing just their second doubles point of the year. They jumped out to take court two 6-2 before FSU tied the doubles point up on court three. Junior Andrea Garcia and sophomore Petra Hule stayed unbeaten with a 6-2 win on court three. The Irish wrapped up the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court one.

Florida State came out hot in singles taking all six first set en route to capturing all six singles points.

Senior Ana Oparenovic made quick work on court four. She allowed her opponent to win just one game, defeating her 6-1, 6-0. Hule followed her up to give FSU their first lead of the match. Hule took an early lead in the first set and never looked back winning 6-2, 6-2. Garcia quickly followed giving the Garnet and Gold an insurmountable 3-1 lead. Garcia won the first set 6-1 and the second 6-2.

Sophomore Emmanuelle Salas clinched her second match of the year on court two 6-4, 7-5 to give Florida State a 4-1 lead. Junior Carla Touly expanded that lead to 5-1 with her seventh win of the season over a ranked opponent. She battled in the first set to take it in a tiebreaker 7-6 (3). In the second set, she fell behind 4-2 before mounting a comeback. She went on to win five of the final six games to win the second set 7-5 and the match over 58th ranked Zoe Spence.

Junior Nandini Das wrapped things up for Florida State with a three-set win. Das won the first set 6-2 before losing the second 6-3. In the third set tiebreaker, she was able to become victorious, outlasting her opponents 10-8.

The Noles are back on the road again next week as they head to Boston College and Syracuse.
