TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- The No. 19/25 Florida State swimming and diving team will compete in its final dual meet of the season on Saturday, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., against SEC foe No. 17/NR Alabama.
“We have nothing but respect for Alabama. There program has a lot of tradition and it is a good test for us,” head coach Neil Harper said. “It is a tough venue, it’s their senior meet and alumni reunion so we’re going to have to stay focused in a hostile environment.”
The Seminoles come into the meet on a hot streak, winning four consecutive dual meets. Last weekend, FSU swept ACC opponent Clemson in the team’s final home meet of the season. Senior dive Landon Marzullo earned ACC Performer of the week honors for his pair of victories on the one and three-meter for the men (7-1, 2-0), and freshman Julia Henkel paced the women (9-1, 3-0) with three individual event wins.
The Garnet and Gold and Crimson Tide have a history of close meets, with the men having an all-time series record of 10-10 and the women 8-8. Alabama enters the meet with its men’s and women’s teams on the opposite end of the spectrum. The men are 6-0, while the women are 0-6.
“If you look at how the two teams have performed a lot will come down to who gets third, fourth and fifth-place,” Harper said. “Their men are undefeated this year including a win against Auburn so we have nothing to lose. I want to see our team come together and swim for each other. We’re looking for toughness and a will to win under adversity.”
