BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 17 Florida State volleyball had a very happy Halloween in Blacksburg, Va. as the Seminoles earned a 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 19-25, 25-16) victory over Virginia Tech

By taking down the Hokies (16-8, 6-7 Atlantic Coast Conference), the Seminoles (21-2, 12-1) maintain their first-place spot in the conference while extending their program-best league winning streak to nine in a row.

“It was a good match for us overall,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “We played really well in the first and second sets and then let them back in it the third. They had a really good crowd here tonight that got loud and made it difficult. But we were able to fight back.”

Three ‘Noles posted double-digit kills Saturday night with sophomore Rachael Morgan leading the way with 13. Junior Stephanie Neville also had 12 and senior Jordana Price had 10 of her own.

Both Morgan and Neville registered hitting percentages of at least .340.

Defensively, true freshman Fatma Yildirim had a career night. The outside hitter had just four kills but more than made her mark on the match with a career-high 17 digs.

Junior Jenna Romanelli added 10 digs with senior Nikki Baker posted a match- and season-high 32 assists.

True freshman Duygu Duzceler had 13 while Price led all ‘Noles with five blocks.

The four-set win is FSU’s second 3-1 victory over Virginia Tech this season. The Seminoles previously defeated the Hokies in September.

As the 2009 season draws closer and closer to its conclusion, every match becomes that much more important for a Florida State team looking to hold on to its lead in the conference.

FSU now returns home for a showdown with Duke on Friday and Wake Forest on Sunday.
