Game Notes vs Wake Forest

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Back on the road this weekend for the fifth-ranked Florida State (28-8, 14-4) baseball team as the Seminoles travel to face Wake Forest (24-15, 11-7) for a pivotal three-game series with huge ACC Atlantic Division implications on the line. The series starts Friday, April 18 at 6:00 p.m. on Gene Hooks Field.

The Demon Deacons, who were picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic Division at the beginning of the year, currently sits in second place in the division, three games behind the Seminoles. Wake has posted league series victories over Georgia Tech, Boston College, Notre Dame and Maryland this year.

Five of FSU’s first six ACC opponents have come from within the division as the Seminoles own an inter-divisional record of 13-2, 14-4 overall.

The Noles lead the all-time series 82-21 against Wake Forest including a mark of 25-7 in Winston-Salem. FSU has won 11 of its last 14 games in Winston-Salem and has not lost a series to Wake on its home turf since 2002. During that span, Florida State has outscored the Deacs 125-68.

Since FSU joined the league in 1992, the series at Wake has seen a little bit of everything as the Seminoles have scored double-digit runs 16 times (winning all of them), 16 games have been decided by three runs or less (FSU leads 10-6) and three games have been decided in extra inning including a 20-inning contest in 2006 – the longest in school history (FSU W, 4-3).

Florida State has dominated the series as of late winning 21 of the last 25 games including a series sweep in Tallahassee last year. Thirteen of those 25 contests have been decided by two runs or less (FSU 10-3) including eight one-run ball games – all won by FSU including four decided in extra innings.

When the two schools last met in Winston-Salem in 2012, the Seminoles took 2-of-3 from Wake Forest as all three games were decided by two runs or less. In terms of series victories, FSU has won the last seven over WF since 2007 (split two games in 2006).

Both teams head into the weekend series winners of two straight.
