LAKE NONA, Fla. – Senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas lost in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship to South Carolina’s third-ranked doubles pair of Ingrid Gamarra Martins and Mia Horvit.
Salas and Oparenovic swapped service games with Martins and Horvit to begin the first set. That was the only point the Noles would see in the first set as they would go on to lose 6-1.
In the second set, Florida State exchanged points with South Carolina until they broke the Gamecock duo to take a 3-2 lead that they turned into 4-2. Martins and Horvit broke back to tie the match up at four and took a 5-4 lead after holding on serve. South Carolina broke Florida State to take the final game of the match and the second set 6-4.
