Outland and Nagurski Watch Lists Announced

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Redshirt junior center Alec Eberle and senior defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi have been named to the Outland Trophy watch list, the Football Writers Association of America announced Thursday morning. Additionally, former Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden will receive the Tom Osborne Legacy Award at the presentation ceremony, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, on January 10, 2018.

The Outland Trophy is awarded annually to the nation’s top interior lineman.

Nnadi was also one of four Seminoles named to the Bronko Nagurski watch list, given to the nation’s top defensive player by the FWAA, joining junior defensive end Josh Sweat, junior cornerback Tarvarus McFadden and redshirt sophomore defensive back Derwin James.

Eberle was previously named to the Rimington Award watch list, given to the nation’s top center, while Nnadi was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list for Defensive Player of the Year.

James and McFadden previously joined Nnadi on the Bednarik Award watch list, and James was also on the Maxwell watch list for player of the year.

McFadden was one of five finalists last season for the Nagurski Trophy after leading the country with eight interceptions.

Sweat, from Chesapeake, Va., finished 2016 with 41 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks, with all seven sacks coming in the final eight weeks of the season. Sweat was a freshman All-American honorable mention from Campus Insiders as a freshman.

The Outland Trophy will name three finalists on November 21, and the 72ndOutland Trophy recipient will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 7. Eberle and Nnadi are both vying to be FSU’s first winner of the award.

The Nagurski Trophy will be presented on December 4 in Charlotte, N.C.
