TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Following a perfect weekend of play at LSU’s Battle on the Bayou, seniors Tory Paranagua and Vanessa Freire take home both the AVCA/CollegeBeachVB.com national weekly honor and the CCSA conference weekly honor.
In their five matches over the weekend, the Seminoles top-seeded pair of Paranagua/Freire didn’t surrender a single set in any of their five wins to help the team go 5-0 in its final event of the regular season. Freire’s wins over the weekend also made her the sixth Seminole in program history to reach 100 overall wins in her career.
Among AVCA Top-20 programs, Paranagua/Freire was one of only five No. 1 pairs to go undefeated last weekend (along with USC’s Bustamante/Graudina, Hawaii’s Maglio/Schucht, Stetson’s Thomas/Dunn and Tulane’s Mertz/Mchugh). Of those five teams, only three went undefeated in their dual matches (Florida State, Hawaii and Stetson).
Paranagua/Freire was also the only one of those five undefeated pairs on ranked teams to register five wins.
The Seminoles defeated two conference opponents over the weekend, Georgia State and LSU, to end the regular season with a perfect 10-0 CCSA record to secure a No. 1 seed in the CCSA Championship.
