2012 Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American Team

TUCSON, Ariz. ( – A week after being named Pre-Season All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, senior James Ramsey and junior Devon Travis were back in the headlines earning second team accolades on the 2012 Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American team.

Ramsey and Travis, who have started for the Seminoles in each of the last two seasons, will lead a group of six returning field position starters from last year’s squad that reached the NCAA Super Regionals.

After being drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 2011 MLB First Year Player Draft, Ramsey returns to Tallahassee for his senior season, a year after being named an All-American and leading the Seminole baseball team in batting average, hits, home runs and RBI. He was honored as a third team All-American by the NCBWA last spring.

Ramsey started all 65 games in 2011 and hit .364 with 91 hits, 18 doubles, 10 home runs and 67 RBI. After starting the last two seasons in right field, the Alpharetta, Ga., native will make the move to centerfield in 2012. Ramsey gained valuable experience in centerfield this past summer in the Cape Cod League with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. He hit .314 (33-for-105) in 30 games with five doubles, three triples, six home runs and 28 RBI and then capped the summer off as he was named MVP of the East team at the 2011 All-Star game.

Travis is coming off a sophomore campaign in which he started 59 games at second base en route to earning first team All-ACC accolades. The Wellington, Fla., native hit a career best .329 with 76 hits, a team-high 26 doubles, six home runs and 33 RBI. Travis ranked eighth nationally in doubles and was among the national leaders in runs per game (0.97, 80th), runs (58, 52nd), double per game (0.43, 16th) and base on balls (45, 27th).

Florida State opens the 2012 campaign with a three-game home stand against the Hofstra Pride, February 17-19. First pitch on opening day is set for 4:00 p.m.
