ARLINGTON, Texas – Junior catcher Cal Raleigh was named the National Hitter of the Month by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, the group announced Wednesday. Raleigh hit .452 (28-for-62) with eight doubles, six home runs and 18 RBI, leading FSU to a 12-3 record and a second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference Championship.
Raleigh, from Cullowhee, N.C., ended the season on a career-high 17-game hitting streak. He was a third-round pick in the MLB Draft on Tuesday, the 90th overall selection by the Seattle Mariners. Raleigh finished his junior season with career highs in average (.326), hits (75), doubles (18), home runs (13) and RBI (54). He reached base at a .447 clip and slugged a career-high .583.
Raleigh was previously named a first-team All-ACC selection and a second- (Collegiate Baseball) and third-team (Baseball America) All-American.
Raleigh is the second Seminole to be recognized by the NCBWA in 2018. Senior outfielder Steven Wells was named the National Hitter of the Week in mid-April when he reached in 22 of 24 plate appearances over five games.
