Recruit Spotlight: Abby Evans

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( – On Thursday, Nov. 13, Florida State Softball announced its 2015-16 recruiting class consisting of six student-athletes who will be joining the Seminole family next season. This week, we are highlighting each individual to allow fans to know more about those who will soon be wearing the Garnet and Gold. Today, the spotlight shines on Abby Evans, a pitcher from Marietta, Ga.

“FSU is a great school with an exceptional academic reputation and I love the family-like atmosphere of the softball program,” Evans said. “The coaches are awesome.”

Evans is a right-handed pitcher from the Atlanta Vipers organization. The Vipers earned 16U ASA State and National Championships in 2013. She’s an intelligent pitcher that will be excellent in setting her game plans and knowing her strengths and weaknesses. While not overpowering, she gets outs and keeps the ball down.

“A crafty, dedicated pitcher that is going to grow in this program,” head coach Lonni Alameda said. “Abby is smart, competitive and I’m confident she will take all the opportunities Florida State Softball offers”.

She earned Region Pitcher of the Year and All-State honorable mention honors as a freshman in 2011 for Hillgrove High School. In both 2012 and 2013, Evans was named first team All-County and All-Region.

Most recently, Evans and Hillgrove finished second in the 2014 GHSA State tournament as she pitched 37 of the 40 innings the Hawks played in the tournament, earning a spot on the All-County First Team.

For her high school career, Evans has amassed a record of 47-22 with an ERA of 1.50 and 450 strikeouts in 459 innings pitched.

“Abby’s crafty and doesn’t give in to hitters,” added assistant coach Travis Wilson. “I love the way she competes in the circle and always gives her team a chance to win the game. Being able to have four years with Coach Alameda, talking the game and in the weight room, I think Abby will shine.”

Evans has placed on the Hillgrove honor roll each year of high school and chose Florida State over offers from Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Murray State and Lipscomb.

Continue to come back to each day this week as we shine the Recruit Spotlight on another member of the 2015-16 signing class.
