TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – On Thursday, Nov. 13, Florida State Softball announced its 2015-16 recruiting class consisting of six student-athletes who will be joining the Seminole family next season. This week, we are highlighting each individual to allow fans to know more about those who will soon be wearing the Garnet and Gold. Today, the spotlight shines on Tessa Daniels, a pitcher and first baseman from Auburn, Ga.
Daniels is a left-handed hitter and pitcher who currently plays with the East Cobb Bullets organization and also won four state titles with Buford High School. The Wolves were GHSA AA Champions in 2011 and 2012, AAA Champions in 2013 and just won the AAAA title on Nov. 1, 2014.
“I view Florida State University as a new home in which I can build my faith upon,” said Daniels. “The moment I stepped foot onto JoAnne Graf Field, I felt this unexplainable sensation. Christ put it in my heart in that moment, and I immediately knew FSU was the next chapter He intentionally scribed on my path.”
She has been named to the GHSA All-State First Team each season of high school and awaits for the 2014 announcement that will come in December. As a junior in 2013, Daniels batted .465 (53-for-114) with four home runs and 44 RBI while posting an 8-0 record along with a 2.52 ERA and 36 strikeouts in the circle.
“Tessa is going to bring us depth in the circle and I’m really excited about her ability to play first base. She comes from a very competitive high school program in Buford and elite club ball programs in the Atlanta area,” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “I love the way she competes, both in the pitcher’s circle and batter’s box. A true two-way player that can influence the game on both offense and defense.”
While a member of the GA Impact she earned a spot on the StudentSports.com Hot 100 list for the Class of 2015. In 2012, playing for the Atlanta Vipers, Daniels won the 14U PGF National Championship, tossing three victories in the circle and hitting three homeruns and driving in 13 RBI in the tournament as the Vipers were named 14U Softball Team of the Year.
A winner of the Academic Excellence Award each year in high school, Daniels recently was named Buford’s softball Scholar-Athlete for 2014-15. She also earned a Technology Student Award in 2013 and won the school’s Science Fair in the spring of 2014.
Daniels chose Florida State over offers from Tennessee, South Carolina and the University of Florida.
In commenting on someone who has had the biggest impact on her life, Daniels adds, “My family knows how thankful I am for all they do for me. With this given, I want to acknowledge Adam Blake Smith. When he took his last breath, I took my first. Through his passing, my blurred vision became fixed on Christ. In all I do, I am reminded of Who I do it for – every pitch of every inning.”
Continue to come back to Seminoles.com each day this week as we shine the Recruit Spotlight on another member of the 2015-16 signing class.
