TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After collecting a pair of hefty victories against the No.11 Florida Gators last Thursday, Senior Ariel Rittenhouse was named the ACC Female Diver of the Week by the league office. This marks the second time the Santa Cruz, Calif. native was awarded the honor this season. (Nov. 20, Oct.23)
“Back at Nationals this summer, I feel like Ariel had a huge turning point in her career,” head diving coach Patrick Jeffrey said. “She rededicated herself on a high level and she’s been focusing on her fitness and it’s starting to show. She’s getting after it and she’s not going to stop until she sees success on the national level.”
The 24th – ranked FSU women’s swimming and diving team was able to pull of the 157-143 upset over its rival thanks to Rittenhouse and junior Kelsey Goodman outscoring the Gators 26-12 on the boards on top of the Seminoles claiming eight wins in the swimming events.
With 3-meter diving being before the meet, Rittenhouse captured the first of ten FSU victories with a score of 359.93, which was six points shy of the school record. This was the second time this season that she came close to breaking the mark set back during the 2010-11 season by Lisi Rowland. (361.75 vs. Florida Atlantic) Rittenhouse kept firing her dives as she scored a 306.15 to win 1-meter.
Rittenhouse and the rest of the Seminoles will head to Atlanta, Ga. for the Georgia Tech Invite, starting on Nov. 3.
