TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –  Senior Ariel Rittenhouse placed third in the 3-meter synchronized event on the first day of the 2014 World Cup Synchro Trials which are being held at the Morcom Aquatics Center. Teamed up with Amanda Burke, the pair scored a total of 511.20 after 10 dives.

“It was great to compete again in synchro,” Rittenhouse said. “It’s been a long time and I thought we did well together considering it was our first time competing alongside each other.”

Diving with Amanda Burke, the pair produced the second highest score of 267.30 in prelims which was at the top end of a three-way battle for second through fourth place, where three teams were separated by six points.

In finals, Rittenhouse and Burke posted a round score of 243.90 for a total of 511.20, good enough for third place.

“I thought they did well today,” FSU head diving coach Patrick Jeffrey said. “As Ariel’s coach, I was very proud of her. She didn’t miss a dive all day and she looked great.”

Burke was also diving with Samantha Pickens (Arizona) and the duo finished in fourth with a tally of 504.87.

Laura Ryan (Georgia) and 2012 Olympic Silver medalist Abby Johnston (Duke) won the event with a total of 606.60 and will represent USA Diving at the 2014 World Cup in Shanghai on July 15-20.
