TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Taylor Roberts of the nationally ranked Florida State Women’s Golf Team, and Alberto Martinez of the nationally ranked Florida State Men’s Golf Team, will play in the FSGA Fall Elite Series Oct. 12-13 at the Mark Bostick Golf Club at the University of Florida. The FSGA Fall Elite Series is a group of six tournaments intended for elite men’s and women’s golfers aged 18-24. Each event will be ranked by the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

Each of the six events in the series is expected to be made up primarily of collegiate golfers whose fall seasons have been cancelled or shortened by the coronavirus pandemic.

Roberts and Martinez will participate in a college-like 54-hole event with 56 holes played on Monday (Oct. 12) and 18 holes played and an individual champion decided on Monday (Oct. 13). The women will play 5,859 yards while the men will play 6,655 yards on the par 70 course.

Roberts, a freshman at Florida State, finished in a tie for second place at the GCAA Amateur at Johns Creek earlier this fall, with scores of 74-77-71 for a three-round total of 222 (6 over par). Included in her second round score of 77 were four birdies and one eagle.

“I’m looking forward to teeing it up in another event,” said Roberts. “Just to be given the opportunity to play during these times is something I’m grateful for. I’m excited to see what Gainesville has in store for me this week.”

Martinez, a Seminole junior, finished with a 75.64 stroke average as a sophomore – nearly a one full stroke improvement from his freshman season. He totaled four rounds at par or less, including a season-best 68 (4-under) in the first round of the White Sands Intercollegiate where he earned his first career top-25 individual finish in his second season at Florida State.

“I am really excited to get back out there and compete,” said Martinez. “I know this week will bring its challenges, but I am really looking forward to play against some good competition.”
