Rutledge joins Student-Athlete Academic Services program

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Michael Rutledge has joined the Florida State Student-Athlete Academic Services program as a Learning Specialist, Dr. Greg Beaumont, the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and Senior Associate Athletics Director for Florida State University’s Student-Athlete Academic Services announced Thursday.

“We are extremely pleased that Michael Rutledge has joined our department as a Learning Specialist, “ Beaumont said. “He brings a fine combination of experience as a former student-athlete and extensive educational credentials to our already outstanding educational services unit.”

Rutledge, a native of Houston Texas, will graduate with his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in Curriculum and Instruction in December 2014. His doctoral thesis focused on African American student- athletes and motivational factors that lead to graduate school. Rutledge is a former football student- athlete for Texas State University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science and a Master’s degree in Sport Management.

“I look forward to working with the Florida State University Student-Athlete Academic Services program.” Rutledge said. “Florida State is a great representation of excellence and I am eager to be a part of this program and community.”
