NEW HAVEN, Conn. – As the winner of the Florida region, former women’s tennis player Amy Sargeant will join 12 other regional winners to compete in the 2013 U.S. Open National Playoffs from Aug. 16-19 in New Haven, Conn. at Yale University. The winner of the event will advance to the U.S. Open Qualifying Tournament held Aug. 20-23 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center with a chance to earn a spot in the main draw of the 2013 U.S. Open.
“I am very fortunate to have this opportunity to play in the US Open playoff, especially being so early into my professional career.” Sargeant said. “Since winning the Florida playoff earlier this summer, I decided to narrow my focus on getting as fit as possible and ready to compete at the highest level. The key to my success during my senior season was fitness and I am confident to say I feel more fit and stronger going into competition this week. If I feel good, I know I’ll play good.”
Sargeant (GBR) will first take on the Southwest regional winner, Kelcy McKenna (USA).
