TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Sean Gilmartin made headlines for the second straight day as he was named the 2009 Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s (NCBWA) Freshman Pitcher of the Year as announced on Tuesday, June 9.

Gilmartin, ranked No. 4 in the nation in wins, finished his freshman campaign with a 12-3 record and a 3.49 ERA in 98.0 innings of work. He struck out 83 batters, walked 37, registered two complete games and one save, while opponents hit just .221 against him.

The Moorpark, Calif., native became the Seminoles’ Friday night starter just three weeks into the season. He currently leads the ACC in wins and ranks in the top 10 in complete games (t-1st), innings pitched (t-2nd), opponents batting average (3rd) and ERA (6th). Gilmartin became just the second freshman in school history to earn first team All-ACC accolades. He was also named to the NCAA Tallahassee All-Region Team after throwing a complete game victory over Georgia.

Also this year, Gilmartin was honored as a third team All-American and a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball. He is just the second Seminole this decade to be named an All-American as a freshman, joining Stephen Drew in 2002. On Monday, June 8, Gilmartin was named a first team Freshman All-American by the NCBWA.

The freshman southpaw led the Seminoles to a final record of 45-18, the NCAA Tallahassee Regional Championship and to a spot in the Super Regionals.

Pro-Line Athletic is in its fifth year as a sponsor of the NCBWA. It produces and distributes plaques for National Hitter and Pitchers of the Week during the regular season and extends its award production to include plaques for each member of the Pro-Line/NCBWA All-American team.
