All-American Candidate Chris Singleton, who has led the Florida State Basketball team to the NCAA Tournament in both of the last two seasons, has been selected to the participate on a second USA Select team that will train against the 2010 USA Men’s World Championship finalist team in New York August 9-13.

Singleton is a part of this select team which was chosen from a group of 20 players that trained and scrimmaged against the USA National Team at the National team training camp in Las Vegas in July.

“It is truly an honor to be a part of the USA Select Team,” said Singleton. “The opportunity to continue to learn and grow as a player will allow me to help our team at Florida State be the best it can be when we begin practicing this fall. It’s exciting to be able to practice and play with some of the greatest players in college basketball and against many of the greatest players in the world.”

The 10 returning members of the USA Select team will gather in New York on August 9 and train against the World Championship Team finalists on August 10 (at John Jay College), August 11 (John Jay College), August 12 (TBD) and August 13 (New York Knicks practice facility in Tarrytown, N.Y).

“One of the great developments of our Las Vegas camp was the USA Select team that we brought in to scrimmage against the USA National Team,” said USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo. “It worked so well that we’ve decided to bring to New York a smaller group of players from that Select Team to do the same thing. They were very valuable to us and it’s a great experience for them.”

The USA World Championship team will be in New York to continue its preparations for the upcoming FIBA World Championship tournament Aug. 28-Sept. 12 in Turkey. While the team is in New York they will take part in the first-ever World basketball Festival, a four-day celebration of the game of basketball. The festival, which includes training against the USA Select team, concludes with a doubleheader in Madison Square Garden on Aug. 15. The USA takes on France and China meets Puerto Rico in the doubleheader.

Singleton is one of three ACC players named to the team along with Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith of Duke. The ACC and the Big Ten are the only two conferences represented with three players on the 10 man team. The Atlantic 10, the Big East, the Horizon League and the SEC are represented by one player each.
