Seminole Chops and Superstitions With Audrey Hand

Sept. 27, 2007

Q: What made you choose to come to Florida State?
A: My Dad talked me into it. He walked around the house doing the Seminole chop for the longest time. I couldn’t let him down if I choose to go anywhere else.

Q: What drives you to run?
A: I love the feeling of accomplishment I get when I finish a hard workout. I feel like I can conquer anything else that comes my way.

Q: Who or what inspires you to run?
A: My Coach back home really made me love and appreciate running. Running is something really special to me. I have made many good friends and have learned discipline through it.

Q: What are your goals for the team this year?
A: I really would love to see our team’s talent come together, place in the top ten this year at Nationals, win Regionals, ACC’s, etc. And also participate in more community service.

Q: What are your own personal goals for this year (academic and/or athletic)?
A: I would like to graduate this spring and break my personal records in my runs.

Q: What is your favorite memory from the years of cross country?
A: On our training trip every year we do a gruesome run up a mountain. When we finish the run we get to the top of a mountain where there is a fire tower that we climb up on and see the scenery. This year, one of the girls on our team was proposed to on the fire tower after the run.

Q: What do you like about your teammates?
A: My teammates are one of the best support systems I have ever had. We lookout and care a lot about each other. I love the sense of family I get from them.

Q: If you weren’t an athlete here at FSU what do you see yourself doing?
A: I have no idea. I couldn’t imagine my life being any different nor would I want it to be.

Q: What do you do for fun outside of class and practice?
A: I love to cook.

Q: Do you have any superstitions about running or before meets?
A: I kiss my Grandma’s necklace that I wear.
