Seminole Men’s Golf Team Competing At Prestigious Carpet Capital Collegiate

Nov. 5, 2004

Rocky Face, Ga. –
Competing against seven of the top 10 and 12 of the top 25 teams in the nation, the Florida State men’s golf team battled tough holes on a difficult golf course in the first round of the prestigious Carpet Capital Classic. The Seminoles were led by sophomore Bradley Ruch who is in a tie for 37th place in the individual standings after shooting a five-over par 77. Florida State is in 18th place in the individual standings.

Georgia, the nation’s third ranked team, leads the team standings after the first 18 holes by five strokes over fourth ranked New Mexico. Georgia Tech, the host school for the tournament and No. 1 ranked team in the nation, is in third place and stands nine strokes behind the front-runing Bulldogs.

Ruch (Louisville, Ky.), the only Seminole to compete in all five events for the team this fall, led his teammates with his first round score of 77. He is looking to finish as the leading Seminole for the first time this fall after finishing fourth among his teammates at the recent Inaugural Isleworth Classic. Ruch shot a season-low 69 in the first round of the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate in September.

Senior Rusty Mosley (Vidalia, Ga.) is in a tie for 56th place in the individual standings after carding a 79. Mosley has carded two of the lowest 10 rounds for the Seminoles this season including a pair of one-under par 70’s in the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate. After playing in three events this season, Mosley ranked second on the team with a 74.89 stroke average.

A pair of newcomers – Song Jeon (Seoul, Korea) and Jacob Davis (Deland, Fla.) – and a senior Mark Sestilio (Punta Gorda, Fla.), are also competing for the Seminoles. Joen is competing in only his second tournament as a collegian while Davis won the junior college individual championship in 2004.

Saturday’s second round of 18 holes begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
