Lady Seminoles take on No. 9 Lady Gators
The Florida State Lady Seminole swimming and diving team will travel to Gainesville for a match-up with the Lady Gators on Friday, November 19 at 4:00pm at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center Natatorium. The Lady Seminoles are 4-2 going into the meet.
The Lady Seminoles are coming off a 174-91 win over Indian River Community College last weekend. Christy Cech and Tanya Gurr led the Lady Seminoles, each winning two events. Cech won the 200 Free (1:51.96) and the 100 Free (51.31) with Gurr winning the 50 Free (24.54) and the 200 Back (2:09.17). Other Lady Seminoles winning their events are Amber Goodwin in the 100 Back (58.77), Keryn Kreynauw in the 100 Breast (1:05.31), Kathleen McCubbins in the 100 Fly (57.90) and Liska Dedekind in the 1000 Free (10:26.72). In diving action, Marya Sabesky won the one-meter (279.52) and three-meter diving (301.50). Diver Caren Hirai finished second on both boards with Brandy Ogelsby finishing third.
No. 20 Seminoles take on the No. 13 Gators
The Florida State Seminole swimming and diving team travels to Gainesville this week to take on the Florida Gators Friday, November 19 at 4:00pm at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center Natatorium. The Seminoles are 3-2 going into the meet.
The Seminoles are coming off a 142-131 win over Indian River Community College last weekend. Greg Main-Baillie led the Seminoles as he won the 100 Back (50.81) and 100 Free (45.73). Other top finishes included Brett Petersen, winning the 100 Breast (57.11), Steve Forson, winning the 100 Fly (51.32), Danny Chocron, winning the 1000 Free (9:34.96), Joey Marshburn, winning the 50 Free (21.43) and Nelson Mora in the 200 Fly (1:53.38). Brent Burkman took the top spot on both boards in diving action, winning the one-meter with a score of 288.75 and three-meter in a score of 323.55. Roudning out the diving action were Ben Nuttall (3rd on the one-meter), Glenn Gonzales (2nd on the three-meter) and Erik Russell, who finished 4th on the three-meter.

Junior Greg Main-Baillie leads the two teams with 110 points scored, followed closely by junior transfer Christy Cech, who has 108. Cech leads the newcomers for the women as Steven Forson leads the new men with 48 points. Betsy Nagy leads the freshman women with 29 as Devon Crock leads the freshman men with 17.
Getting it Done:
Junior Christy Cech has been getting it done for the Lady Seminoles. The transer from Pietermaritzberg, South Africa, has won every individual event she has competed in this season. Junior Greg Main-Baillie has won 11 of the 14 events he has competed in this season.
A Gator at FSU?
Assistant Coach Michelle Gacio has a diret connection to the Florida Gators. Gacio, a 1996 gradaute of the Univerisity of Florida, was an All-American and coached the Florida Aquatic Swim Team in Gainesville.
From Down Under…
Four Seminoles represented their respective homelands this summer in the 1999 Pan-Pacific Championships in Sydney, Australia. Volunteer assistant coach Brendon Dedekind, representing South Africa, won the 50m Free, Greg Main-Baillie, swimming for South Africa as well, finished 12th in the 50 Free and 15th in the 100 Free at the championships, South African Brett Petersen finished 4th in the 100 Breast and was on the 4th place 400 Free Relay team, and Danny Chocron, who represents Venezuala, finished 2nd in the 25K.
Half and Half
Both the men’s and women’s teams are chock full of new faces. Half of the women’s team and 14 of the 31 Seminoles are brand new. Of those 27, 20 are freshman.
