Seminole Volleyball Travels To Georgia Tech and Clemson

The Florida State volleyball team will hit the road this weekend to take on two tough ACC opponents. The Seminoles are coming off a thrilling victory last weekend against Duke and will look to stay undefeated in ACC play as they face the Clemson Tigers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Seminoles’ first test will come against Clemson Saturday October 5th at 4:00pm. Clemson enters the match with an overall record of 11-7 and a conference record of 2-1. The next match for the Tribe will be against No. 23 Georgia Tech Sunday, October 6th, at 3:00pm. The Yellow Jackets have a record 16-2 and are ranked first in the ACC with a 3-0 record.

The Clemson Tigers have stepped up their level of play, winning seven of their last eight matches. The Tigers’ seven-match winning streak came to an end in heart-breaking fashion Tuesday, October 1st, in a 5 game loss to the 11th-ranked North
Carolina Tarheels. Clemson is led by Lori Ashton and Ryane Beasley, a duo of outstanding sophomores. The two players have recorded 200 plus kills on the season and average over three kills per game for the Tigers. Ashton leads the team with a hitting percentage of .375, while Beasley is close behind with a percentage of .311. Senior setter Jessi Betcher has performed well for Clemson as she has totaled 891 assists and 224 digs thus far for the Tigers.

The Seminoles finish their weekend road trip when they travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech has gotten off to a 3-0 start in ACC play with victories over N.C. State, Maryland and Virginia. The Yellow Jackets are led by sophomores Lynnette Moster and Lauren Sauer. Moster, two-time ACC player of the week in 2002, leads the team with 371 kills, a hitting percentage of .372, 25 service aces and 210 digs. Sauer has contributed for the Yellow Jackets as she has recorded 224 kills, averaging 3.39 kills per game.

The Seminoles return to Tully Gym, when they host an ACC double header against Virginia and Maryland. Florida State will take on the Cavaliers of Virginia Friday, October 11th, and the Maryland Terrapins Saturday, October 12th. Both matches are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
