Seminole Women’s Golf Team In Eighth At NCAA East Regional
The Florida State women’s golf team in eighth place in the team standings after the second round of the NCAA East Regional at Salem Glen Country Club. The Seminoles begin play in Saturday’s final round in place for a bid the NCAA Championships but must remain as one of the top eight teams in the event. Florida State slipped from its second place position to its current ranking of eighth Arizona during the second round. The top eight teams and three individuals from this region will advance to the NCAA Championship May 20-23 at Purdue University.

No. 1 ranked Duke maintained its team lead while Meaghan Francella move to the top of the individual leader board. Duke begins the third and final round in position to with its fourth consecutive NCAA East Regional Championship. Francella, the 2003 ACC individual champion, will begin play in the third round one stroke ahead of Furman’s Brandi Jackson.

Seminole junior Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) leads Florida State with a two-day total of five over par 147. After shooting a one-over par 72 in the first round, Sordel carded a four-over par 75 in the second round. Her 147 total for the is the best 36-hole score of her 26-event Seminole career. She is in a tie for 18th place in the individual standings.

Seminole freshman Caroline Larsson (Dendyard, Sweden) and junior Alison Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) are in a tie for 22nd-place with identical scores of six-over par 148. Larsson carded a 76 while Curdt totaled a 75 in the second round. The 148 total is tied for Larsson’s best 36-holes score and is Curdt’s third best career score for 36 holes.

Senior All-America candidate and the-time All-ACC honoree Kristin Tamulis (Naples, Fla.) is in a tie for 27th place after the first 36 holes. She carded a five-over par 76 in the second round and stands with a 149 two-day total. Junior Katie Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) has a two-round total of 150 after carding a 77 in the second round.
