Seminole Women’s Golf Team In Third Place At Ryder/Florida Championship

April 2, 2004

The Florida State women’s golf team is in third place after the first round of the Ryder/Florida Collegiate Championship at Don Shula’s Golf Club and Resort. The Seminoles need to make up 13 strokes over the final two rounds in order to pass both South Florida and Rollins College to win the event for the third consecutive season. Seminole senior Alison Curdt and sophomore Caroline Larsson are tied for seventh in the individual standings and are only four strokes behind the individual leader after the first 18 holes of play.

South Florida, with four players in the top seven of the individual standings, finished with a 305 total for the first 18 holes and is the team leader. Mariana De Biase of Rollins College is the individual leader after finishing the first round with a two-over par score of 74.

Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) and Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) led the Seminoles with identical scores of 78. Larsson finished with scores of 39 on both the front and back nine while Curdt carded a 38 on the front and a 40 on the back nine. Larsson, who finished in a tie for fourth in the individual standings at this event last year, has earned two top 20 finishes this spring. Curdt has finished in the top 15 in each of the last two years at the Ryder/Florida Championship.

Seminole senior Katie Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.), Florida State’s top golfer this spring, finished with a 79 and is in a tie for 14th place. She is attempting to earn her second consecutive top-10 finish after earning a third place finish at last week’s Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia.

Freshman Jaclyn Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) and junior Tyler Johnson (Ponte Vedre Beach, Fla.) are also competing in the event for the Seminoles.

The event continues with an 18-hole shotgun start at 8 a.m. Saturday and concludes with another 18-hole shotgun start Sunday at 8 a.m.
