TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – The Florida State women’s golf team, which has finished in the top 10 in the team standings in each of its three events of the fall season, travels to play in the 2013 Alamo invitational to close out the fall season. The Seminoles, who are coming off of an eighth-place finish at the University of Oklahoma Schooner Fall Classic, will take aim at the par 72, 6,428 yard course at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas. The Seminoles will compete for the championship over three days, Oct. 27- 29 (18 holes each day). Florida State will look to earn its first team championship of the 2013-14 season as it faces a field which includes three of the nation’s top 20 teams.
THE ALAMO INVITATIONAL FIELD
Florida State is joined by No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 17 Florida, Baylor, Louisville, LSU, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State, Tulane and Texas San Antonio in its first ever appearance in the Alamo Invitational. Oklahoma is the team defending champions while Tulane’s Marible Lopez Porras is the defending individual champion with the score of 209 (-7). The Sooners are back to defend their title while a new individual champion will be crowned following Lopez Porras’ graduation from Tulane earlier this year.
FLORIDA STATE FINISHES EIGHTH AT SCHOONER FALL CLASSIC
The Florida State golf team finished their third tournament for the fall season with another top ten team finish. The Seminoles played their best team round of the fall season (a 4 over par 284 total) and counted four scores at 74 or better. The only score the Seminoles discounted was a 75. The Seminoles’ 284 team score in the final round was the best by the team by 10 strokes and was 21 strokes better than their second round performance at the Schooner Fall Classic. Florida State has now finished within 10 strokes of par in three different rounds this fall.
CASTREN LEADS SEMINOLES AT THE SCHOONER FALL CLASSIC
Freshman Matilda Castren(Espoo, Finland), led the Seminoles to an eighth place finish in the team standings at the Schooner Fall Invitational as she shot a career low 69 and finished in a tie for eighth place in the individual standings. The Seminoles finished ahead of two top-25 ranked teams (No. 3 Pepperdine and No. 17 Georgia) and earned their third consecutive top 10 finish of the fall season. Castren, who is averaging a team-leading 72.56 strokes in her first nine career rounds, has finished as the team leader in all three events of the fall season and in the top eight of the individual standings in her last two events.
Junior Alex Milan (Lutz, Fla.) carded a career low tying 70 in the final round and finished in a tie for 22nd place in the individual standings of the Schooner Fall Classic. She carded three scores of 75 or better during the event to earn the fourth top 25 finish of her career. Freshman Anna Sophia Böhmertied her career best with a 71 in the final round and finished in 54th place in the individual standings with a 229 total. Her 229 total is the second best of her three-tournament Florida State career.
CASTREN TO PLAY IN THE SPIRIT INVITATIONAL
Matilda Castrenwill represent her native country of Finland in the 2013 Spirit Invitational Amateur Golf Championship Oct. 28-Nov. 3 at the Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. The Spirit International is a world class amateur event featuring 20 countries from six continents. Each country is represented by its two top men and two top women players. The Spirit is a biennial event alternating years with the World Amateur Team Championships.

Freshman Matilda Castren has carded scores of 75 or better in each of the first nine rounds of her collegiate career…Junior Alex Milan enters the 2013 Alamo Invitational averaging a career best 74.89 strokes per round – nearly three strokes below her scoring average of 77.87 strokes per round in the first two years of her career…four different Seminoles (Matilda Castren, Anna Sophia Böhmer, Laure Castelain and Alex Milan) have each carded at least one single round score of even par or better in the first three events of the fall season…Castren and Milan lead the team with two rounds each scored at par or better.
SEMINOLES TO HOST 2014 NCAA EAST REGIONAL
Florida State will play host to the NCAA East Regional Championship as part of the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship May 8-10, 2014 at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee.
