Seminoles Close Regular Seaon With NC State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Seminoles are coming off an 85-70 loss at No. 17 Maryland on Wednesday. Senior forward Damous Anderson led FSU with 22 points, making 8-of-11 from the field. It was his sixth 20-point game in ACC play this season and his seventh of the year…Anderson is averaging 22.5 points in his last four games, hitting 34-of-52 (65.4 percent) from the floor, including 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from three-point range. He leads Florida State in scoring in ACC games at 18.0 points, is making 56.0 percent from the field (98-of-175) against conference foes and has made 49.3 percent from beyond the arc (37-of-75) in league games…A win against NC State would lock up a tie for fifth place in the league standings. It would mark FSU’s most league victories (7) and highest finish in the conference since winning 12 and taking second in 1992-93…Junior point guard Delvon Arrington had 10 assists in the loss at Maryland, his third double-figure assist game in the last four. He is averaging 9.3 assists and 2.3 turnovers in his last four games. He ranks second in the ACC in assists at a 6.6 clip.

The Wolfpack

The Wolfpack has lost seven straight games entering Sunday’s regular season finale. Their most recent defeat was a 66-63 home setback to Clemson last Sunday. Senior point guard Justin Gainey led State with 17 points in the contest but leading scorer Anthony Grundy was held to seven on 3-of-16 shooting. State squandered a 10-point lead (59-49) in the final six minutes…Grundy is averaging 13.7 points per game and was coming off a 28-point performance against Duke on Feb. 19 and a 29-point game at Georgia Tech on Feb. 24 before being shut down against Clemson…The Wolfpack has lost 10 straight ACC road games and is just 1-8 away from home this season. Their lone road win was a 61-59 victory at No. 19 Purdue in the ACC/BIG TEN Challenge in December.

The Game

Sunday’s game marks the 27th meeting between Florida State and NC State. The Seminoles own a 14-12 advantage in the series, which dates back to Dec. 1, 1955…The Wolfpack took the first meeting of the season with a 68-58 win in Raleigh on Feb. 2 behind 19 points from Damien Wilkins and 17 from Anthony Grundy. The victory was State’s third in its last four meetings with FSU…Florida State is 12-8 against NC State since joining the ACC for the 1991-92 season. The Seminoles have never lost to the ‘Pack in Tallahassee, sporting a 9-0 record. Eight of those wins have come since entering the ACC. NC State is the only league team that has never won a conference game in Tallahassee…FSU would tie for fifth place in the ACC standings with Wake Forest and wrap up the conference’s tournament’s fifth seed with a win. A loss would mean a tie with NC State for sixth in the standings and the tourney’s No. 7 seed.
