TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s tennis team lost a heartbreaker to the 24th ranked Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama Friday afternoon. The loss breaks the Seminoles six match home win streak. With the loss, the Seminoles’ record falls to 7-2 on the season.
At no. 3 doubles, senior Xavier Luscan and freshman Mat Cloer took the first match of the afternoon for the Seminoles, giving them the advantage in doubles play. This proved not enough, however, as the Crimson Tide then took the no. 1 and no. 2 doubles matches to win the doubles point.
In singles action, Chip Webb, playing no. 4 singles, evened the score at one apiece with a win over Alabama’s Nicolas-John Beuque, 6-1, 6-0. Alabama then took the lead in the match with a win at the no. 2 singles position, as no. 114 Chris Gostek defeated Romain Jurd, 6-4, 6-1. Soon after, the match moved to 2-2 when Luscan won at the no. 1 singles position. Luscan, ranked 53rd nationally, defeated no. 65 Maxim Belski of Alabama 6-3, 6-2. Alabama took the next three matches to win the contest 5-2.
The Seminoles return to action on March 2nd, when they travel to Tampa to take on the University of South Florida.
