TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — –
The No. 2-ranked Florida State University
football team concluded practice preparations for this Saturday’s game at
Georgia Tech as head coach Bobby Bowden put the team through a rigorous
15-period practice session. The Seminoles will travel to Atlanta on Friday
and play the Yellow Jackets at 8 p.m. Saturday in a game televised by ABC.
The team began practice with kickoff and punt coverage in game
situations against the Georgia Tech defense. The practice continued with
both offensive and defensive work against the scout teams simulating what
the Seminoles expect to see on Saturday night.
Bowden announced that redshirt sophomore Chance Gwaltney (Cairo,
Ga./Cairo) will kick both extra point and field goals against Georgia Tech
and that freshman Matt Munyon (Panama City, Fla./Rutherford) will handle
the kickoff duties. In addition, he said that Char-ron Dorsey
(Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) would start in place of Brett Williams
(Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) at offensive tackle and that Jeff Womble
(Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody) will start in place of Chris Woods (Orlando
Fla./Jones) at nose guard.
“I felt that Gwaltney kicked better this week and last week,” said
Bowden. “I think one time (this week) they kicked field goals he was
15-of-15 and the next day he was 15-of-15 again. We feel like we can send
him in there and let him kick.”
