NAPLES, Fla. –
Florida State junior Torstein Nevestad finished sixth and sophomore Jonas Blixt finished in a tie for seventh in the individual standings to lead the No. 38 ranked Seminole men’s golf team to a second place finish at the second annual Lexus/Naples Intercollegiate at the Hammock Bay Country Club. The Seminoles have earned two top three team finishes in the first two events of the spring season – second at this event and third at the season-opening Gator Invitational.

Baylor University, ranked 20th nationally, carded a team score of 279 in the third round and defeated Florida State by four strokes. The Seminoles finished with 278 team score in the final round but were unable to catch the Bears. Ryan Baca of Baylor earned individual medalist honors as he finished with an 11-under par score of 205 to defeat Kyle Reifers of Wake Forest by two strokes. Nevestad finished only six strokes out of the lead.

Nevestad (Oslo, Norway) finished the event with a career-low tying five under par score of 211. He carded a career-best single-round score of 65 in the first round and closed the event with an even par score of 72. Sophomore Jonas Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) finished in a tie for seventh place with a four-under par score of 212. His score, rivaled only by his 209 score in earning medalist honors at the 2005 Gator Invitational, ranks as the second best of his career and earned him the second top five finish of his career.

The low score of the day, and of the tournament for the Seminoles, was posted by sophomore Tommy Rymer (Hastings, Minn.). He carded a career-best five-under par 67 and finished in a tie for 15th place with a one-under par score of 215. He showed improvement throughout the event with scores of 75-73-67. The finish for Rymer was the best of his career.
