TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Just a few days out from the ACC Championships, the Florida State softball team makes a quick turn-around as it heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the second consecutive year for the NCAA DI Softball Regionals. The Seminoles are the No. 2 seed this season and will take on third-seeded Jacksonville State in game one on Thursday, May 15 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

The first match-up will be bittersweet for one Seminole, freshman Allison Collins will face her older sister Kayla, a former Nole herself, who transferred to JSU after two years at Florida State. Both ladies wear jerseys with the number 77 which was their father’s number while playing football for Bear Bryant at Alabama.

The Seminoles and Gamecocks have met just four times prior to Thursday, with FSU sweeping the all-time series 4-0 and out-scored JSU 25-4. They last met on April 28, 2002 in Tallahassee which ended in a 6-1 win for the Garnet and Gold.

Florida State had its share of playing Top 20 ranked teams in 2008, starting with No. 4 Tennessee at the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Feb, 29. The Noles would go on to play No. 3 Texas A&M at the same tourney, No. 1 Arizona St., No. 20 Long Beach St., No. 7 Arizona and No. 18 Washington at the Judi Garman Classic in mid-March, No. 3 Florida on April 16, No. 19 Virginia Tech April 18-19 and No. 6 Michigan on April 30. FSU’s record against ranked teams this season was 2-11.

The Seminoles are undefeated against the Gamecocks after four meetings.

Last meeting: May 19, 2007 at NCAA Regionals (6-3 Alabama)

These teams have also met just four times, twice in 1997, once in 1998 and last season at the regional tournament. The all-time series is split 2-2.

The Garnet and Gold is undefeated against the Lady Mocs, 7-0, with the last meeting happening in 2002 with FSU taking a 1-0 shutout in eight innings.
