Seminoles Hope To Punch A Ticket To NCAA Indoor Nationals

Tallahassee, FL – Florida State’s men’s and women’s track and field athletes will learn if they have secured a trip to the indoor championships as the NCAA makes its announcement on the evening of Monday, March 5.

A handful of Seminoles traveled to last chance meets over the weekend in hopes of punching their ticket to Arkansas next weekend.

At the Iowa State Last Chance Meet in Ames, IA, senior Cedric Nabe (Geneva, Switzerland/Lycee St. Joseph) ran a personal best 6.67 in the 60m dash, finishing first and earning a provisional qualifying mark. Nabe’s time also boosted him to No. 16 in the nation.

Also putting on his best performance at Iowa State was freshman Charles Clark (Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside) who ran a collegiate best 20.92 to finish first in the men’s 200m dash finals. Clark is now the seventh ranked collegiate man in the nation.

Sophomore Michael Ray Garvin (Upper Saddle River, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) ran a 21.08 in the 200m, placing third in the finals and ranking No. 21 in the nation. Garvin is also ranked No. 11 in the 60m dash after running 6.66 at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on February 2.

Senior Matt Hurley (Tallahassee, FL/Chiles), ranked 33 in the nation, placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 16’6″/5.03m. Junior Drew Brunson (Snellville, GA/Tennessee) was the fifth Seminole to compete in the Cyclones’ house and ran a 7.94 in the prelims of the 60m hurdles. Brunson is currently ranked No. 27 in the nation.

Senior Tom Lancashire (Bolton, England/Turton), senior Kenny Jesensky (Orlando, FL/Coastal Carolina), junior Mark Buckingham (Huddersfield, England/Sheffield) and sophomore Tywayne Buchanan (Greater Portmore, Jamaica/Wolmer’s Boys’ School) traveled to Notre Dame’s Alex Wilson Invitational to compete in the 400m, mile run and distance medley relay.

Buchanan finished 12th in the 400m in 47.97, Buckingham clocked in at 4:08.55 in the mile run and the distance medley relay ran 9:37.26, good for eighth and provisionally qualifying.

The list of athletes heading to Fayetteville, AK for the NCAA Indoor National Championships on March 9 and 10 will be released around 9:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5. will be updated as information comes available.
