Florida State senior point guard Tim Pickett, who averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals as the Seminoles split two games last week, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week by the by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. It marks the second time during his career that Pickett has earned the honor. He was named the ACC Player of the Week following the final week of the 2003 regular season.
Pickett led the Seminoles, who were playing as a ranked team for the first time since 1998, to a victory over Stetson in his homecoming with 12 points and scored a season-high 25 points in leading Florida State against No. 12 Florida. He hit 10 of 21 shots from the 3-point line (.476) during the two games and led the Seminoles in steals against Stetson and in scoring, rebounding and steals against Florida.
Pickett tied his own personal career-best with six 3-point shots made against No. 12 Florida as she totaled a season high 25 points to mark the fifth time during his career that he had scored 25 or more points in a single game. Pickett was six-of-ten from long range and he made eight field goals during the game. He scored 12 first half points as Florida State held as much as a four-point lead during the first 20 minutes.
Pickett enjoyed a strong homecoming against Stetson with 12 points, three steals and two assists despite playing only 20 minutes as the Seminoles defeated the Hatters. All four of his made field goals came from the 3-point line and he had two assists.
Pickett is Florida State’s leader in scoring (14.9 ppg), steals (36/2.6 spg), 3-point field goals made (44/3.1 mpg) and free throw shooting percentage (.900).
Florida State plays host to NC State in their second ACC game of the season Sunday at 4 p.m. The Seminoles are 1-0 in conference play after defeating Maryland, 87-72, Dec. 28 in Tallahassee and will look to improve to 2-0 for the first time since the 1999-00 season.
